The process of handmade jewellery explained

There are very few Adelaide jewellers to go to if you are looking for a handmade engagement ring. Many companies claim to make one-off, custom made rings, claiming those are top quality when actually they are merely mass-produced and machine made.

All major jewellery stores Adelaide sell mass production cast products, mainly from India and China. Even withsome manufacturing going on, there are many different ways to make such jewellery. These include

1. Carving an original one off ring in wax, getting it cast and polishing; it is obviously not handmade.

2. Buying cast components and putting them together, and notmaking by hand.

3. Designing a ring on the computer, printing a wax ring from that design, and casting it; again not a work of hand.

The process of creating true handmade jewellerystarts with a bar of clean new gold, rolling it down to the desired thickness for a band and hammering the strip of gold into the desired ring shape. When creating simple solitaire rings with Adelaide diamonds, the diamond is set initially by making a cone shape depending on the design, followed by cutting out the desired design.

Rolling down gold and hammering it into shape hardens the gold with every hit; creating a ring in this way will ensure that thejewellery stands the test of time. It will not scratch as much, will keep a much better polish and will not lose shape with general use.

At Direct Diamonds Sales Co., when making a diamond ring with a halo around the centre diamond, we start off with a sheet of gold around 3mm thick, cut out the shape of the halo and drill holes where the diamonds shall be set. The band is once again rolled to the desired thickness and bentinto shape.

Once the general shape of the ring is achieved, we use files to shape the gold and piercing saws to cut out any fine detail that may be required.

The last stage of creating handmade jewellery is the final polishing. Though all pieces of the ring are given a perfect finish and are highly polished before being soldered together, the complete ring gets a final high quality polish once all pieces of the ring are together.

As you can imagine, with a cast ring, the molten gold is poured into a mould and left to cool. Upon cooling, the mould is knocked open and the gold takes the form of a ring. It is then sanded back and polished. However, since it is all in one finished piece, areas that are indentedprove difficult to reach, leading to apoor quality final polish in those parts.

If you are looking for quality engagement ring with Adelaide diamonds, the best type of ring to go for is a handmade one created using high quality Palladium-rich, nickel-free gold. Ones made at Direct Diamonds Sales Co. last for generations and arepart of customers’ unique memories to treasure.
