The city of Kolkata certainly loves the flavour of Hindusthani classical music. There are several musical connoisseurs in the state who loves to be a part of large cultural events. Recently a mega musical confluence event was held in the city where two of the great exponents of Hindusthani classical music participated.
Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia, two of the legends from the Hindusthani classical music scene participated in a superb musical jugalbandi. When these two legends perform, the audience comes in a with a sky high expectation. The stage was set for an evening of enthralling music ahead at the serene ambiance of the Prinsep Ghat. The Prinsep Ghat acts as an ideal venue for such an event and the confluence of the santoor and the flute provided a great musical harmony.
A crowd close to 2,800 people gathered on the shores of the Prinsep Ghat to be a part of such a great occasion. The duo was introduced to the audience by well known Tollywood actor and compere Arjun Chakraborty who also came up with a few shayaris. The audience just loved the introductory part and gradually the performance began.
The whistle of the flute and the strum of the santoor began and kept the audience captivated all through the evening. The elegance of the musical fiesta was heightened by the charm of the duo. As the evening began, the yaman raga took centerstage as the musical melody from the duo gripped the minds of the audience. The flow of the raga went from slow to fast and vice versa. A variety of beats and tals formed an integral part of the raga. The musical accompaniment for the duo was conducted by three eminent musicians named Takahiro Arai, Pandit Subhankar Banerjee and Pandit Bhavani Shankar respectively. The
