If your cruise ship is stopping in San Diego, you’re in for the climate treat of a lifetime! Few places are known to provide such endlessly pleasant weather as San Diego, CA. So when your ship stops for day excursions, you might want to consider taking advantage of the marvelous outdoor activities that San Diego has to offer.

San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo is home to more than 4,000 amazing animals. Check them out in this nurturing environment where you can sneak a peek into the lives of these wonderful creatures. Visitors love the popular exhibits such as the Polar Bear Plunge, Elephant Odyssey and Panda Central. Grab a good pair of walking shoes to navigate the park, takebreaks in the shade and grab lunch at the food court. For an aerial experience, the zoo provides a Skyfari tram ride over the entire park. Tickets are $35 for adults and $26 for children. Well worth the experience!

Balboa Park

The nation’s largest urban cultural park is not to be missed. As a visitor you will encounter 15 major museums, beautiful gardens, and a wide variety of renowned performing arts venues. Choose from concerts under the stars, to plays and musicals, to painting classes – all in the family friendly surroundings and mild weather in the heart of San Diego.

Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines Beach is hidden from the view while you’re driving the Pacific Coast Highway, but once you find it, you get to enjoy breathtaking sunsets, serene cliffs, and beautiful flowers and wildlife. Start from the bottom to avoid the $8 parking fee and enjoy the winding hike up the mountainside. If the hike is a bit too much, you can pay the fee and enjoy the walking trails from the top, going down. At the top you will view gorgeous sunsets and amazing beach-side landscapes.

La Jolla Sea Caves

Visitors are delighted to see the seven exquisite sea caves of La Jolla, located north of the village. You’ll get to see 75 million year old sandstone sea cliffs, accessible only by kayak. Many companies in the area offer snorkeling and kayaking, complete with guided cave tours. When you snorkel, you have the chance to see leopard sharks, sea lions, shovelnose guitarfish and garibaldi. Plan on two hours for the excursion. Tickets are $52 per person.

Belmont Park

A throwback to the San Diego days of old, Belmont Park is a Mission Beach landmark, built in 1925. If you have children along for the trip, this is the place to spend a full day. With wooden roller coasters, carnival rides and arcades, the kids will be in heaven. If the beach gets boring for the kids, Belmont Park is the perfect alternative. Admission is free, however, attractions will cost you $2-$6 per ticket.
