The auto industry is a massive one, with many “top dogs” but every year it seems that one of the manufactures has a massive recall. This year was no different with Toyota and General Motors both calling back millions of cars for safety reasons. But did this affect the industry, are there new players taking the top seat in the auto industry? Here’s our list of top auto manufactures in 2014:
5. Honda Motor Company
Honda Motor Company, Limited is a Japanese multinational corporation that was founded in Hamamatsu, Japan on September 24, 1948 by Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa. It has its headquarters in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. In its early days, it produced only motorcycles and has,over the years become a pioneer in engineering.
4. Hyundai Motor Company
Hyundai Motor Company is a 1967-founded South Korean multinational, and is the third largest producer of cars in the world. American car sales surged in 2013 thanks to Hyundai, as it recorded the all-time US sales record in August last year by exceeding a total sales of 66,000 units. Centennial, Genesis and Accent are some of the most popular car brands produced by Hyundai.
3. Volkswagen
Founded in the year 1937, Volkswagen is Germany’s largest automobile manufacturing company. Known by the slogan ‘Das Auto’ (‘The Car’), it is the largest manufacturer of cars in the world, boasting an impressive total of 8,576,964 cars produced in 2013. However, it comes just shy of the lead in overall vehicle manufacture, with a total output of 9,254,742 vehicles. Volkswagen also has the world’s three best selling cars of all time: the Volkswagen Golf, the Volkswagen Beetle, and the Volkswagen Passat.
2. General Motors
Commonly known as GM, General Motors is an American automobile company which manufactures vehicles in 37 countries worldwide and produces several brands, including Chevrolet, GMC, Lsuzu, Opel Buick, and Cadillac. It was also the largest producer of light commercial vehicles in 2012, with over 2.6 million units built.

Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automaker that was founded in 1937 by Kiichiro Toyoda and its headquarters are in Toyota, Aichi, Japan. It produced its first passenger car the Toyota AA in 1936. Toyota is world’s largest car company and the world’s eleventh largest company by revenue, its revenue being approximately around ¥18.5 trillion. It has manufactured hundreds of models of hybrid, sports, classic, electric, SUVs and luxury cars. Its car models continue to feature in the best car rankings, which are popular in the international markets. Toyota has factories in different parts of the world and manufacturing or assembling vehicles for local markets in Japan, Australia, India, Sri Lanka, Canada, Indonesia, Poland, South Africa, Turkey, Colombia, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Brazil, Portugal, and more recently, Argentina, Czech Republic, Mexico etc.The Toyota Prius is one of the best selling hybrid cars.
Many of these manufactures have been at the top for many years and even with massive recalls GMand Toyota are still the top dogs in this massive international market. Many new competitors are coming up in the markets but still there is space for more competition. In the near future we can see some more companies making a venture into car production. This will be very valuable for those who are interested in buying new automobile variants.
