Saharanpur is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is situated close to border of Haryana and Uttarakhand states. As per the legend, the idols of this temple were placed here by the revered Adi Shankaracharya while performing his Sadhna at the place. It is said that Shakumbari Devi killed Mahishasura Maha Daitya at this place and the Shakumbari Mela is celebrated every year in this temple on the occasion of Navratri.

The place where Ghugghal undertook a very strenuous tapasya came to be known as ‘Ghuggha veer ki Marhi’. The festival, Mela Ghugghal is celebrated with immense passion at this place by the devotees.

Shri Baba Lal Das is the distinction which has a noble soil. Baba lal das performed his tapasya in Saharanpur as a result of which Mughal ruler Dara shikoh had to bow in front of Indian culture. Visiting these places brings a lot respect towards Indian culture. Located on the state Highway Saharanpur-Muzaffarnagar, in the town of Deoband, Shakti Peeth and the region of Deoband is believed to have a strong connection with Goddess Durga. It is believed that Goddess Durga used to live in the forests that were present in Deoband. Thus, the forests were recognized as ‘Devi Van’, soon after it was renamed as Deoband.
