The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is in charge of Crime Records Service (CRS) and the Computerized Criminal History system (CCH) which acts as the central repository for all Texas criminal records as reported by the local law enforcement.

Also, if the person has lived outside Texas for the past seven years, a national check through the vendor is required.

In instances of employment provisions, if the occupation or representative is 25 years of age or more youthful, the personal verification is obliged if the individual has existed outside of Texas at whenever since age 17. The merchant will gather data for the State of Texas and whatever possible state in which the individual lived. A national check through the seller needed for all employees, Administrative and Professional and other particular positions. In the event that a merchant check is not generally obliged and the individual has existed in Texas for as long as seven years, the check will be made through the Texas Department of Public Safety site. The contracting office can ask for a seller check for any contract, regardless of the possibility that it is not needed.

Crime Records Service operates a public and private online system for an easy access to criminal records using a name based search. Searches cost $3 each plus 2.25 percent processing fee per credit and a $.50 transaction fee for using a credit card.  Individuals who request personal records must be fingerprinted and complete a request form. The fee is $15 for mailed requests or, if fingerprints are taken electronically, an additional $9.95.
