science behind Press Release Writing

Press releases are a great way to put your name out there. A cheap and an effective method that has time and time again proved itself and its worth. In this write up, I will explain to you how to write an immaculate PR to generate curiosity among the readers, and finally my personal experience.

A press release should be concise, precise and attention grabbing. Think of a TV advert such as the Mac Vs PC. The “cool” Macintosh guy never explains his features or why it’s better, all he does is insult the PC guy. This intrigues the viewer, as to why is the Mac cooler out of the two? And then they search it on the internet and learn about Mac. The advert caught the viewer’s attention! So how do you write a killer release? You use this guide as your Press Release Format:

·         The headline – First and foremost, this is what the reader sees instantly! If you don’t have a catchy headline, you just lost the interest of the reader. For e.g.: “Diet tea to get fit” sounds ridiculously dull. Replace it with “LOSE WEIGHT FAST!!!” and you have an eye-grabber.

·         The content – K.I.S.S, as in Keep It Short & Simple. This is not a guide to your product, just an advertisement. List out the supreme features and move on to the next line!

·         The ending – End on a friendly note. Write a little about your company and provide a contact address such as a website, definitely better than writing your PO Box number.

·         ### Denotes End – Not many writers emphasize on the hash symbol (#). This is used to mark the finish of your PR. Finish the PR with 3 ###.

How did I learn all this? I needed a PR ready for a friend’s product. So I looked up press release writing services. I decided to give this service called Press Release Magic a shot. After looking at their website, I contacted them and consulted them. Explaining my requirements was an easy task, not because I knew what I wanted but because they knew how to get the information out of me. The best part about the service was “unlimited revisions.” So, if I didn’t like something in particular in a PR mockup, I could suggest them revisions any number of times I wanted until I was satisfied. Surely enough, the PR was a success. From the mockups, I learned their methods and thus, am providing you with that information so you know you’re getting a good PR next time you apply for one!
