Recent Central Processing Unit Reviews

Let us talk about some of the latest developments that are happening in the current CPU market. In this article we will be reviewing some of the latest launches of products and comparing their functionalities.

Firstly let’s consider the new Intel X99 chipset within our CPU reviews which in combination with the “Haswell-E” Intel Core i7 CPU is the most advanced high end desktop PC platform:

As is being touted by the company the upcoming Intel X99 chipset is being called as the “most advanced” desktop PC platform specially developed for the end-consumers. It was launched this year in August, and is focused at the professional consumer market segment being the latest in the line of High End Desktop Platform (HEDT). It is similar to its predecessor the X79 and also offers server/workstation compute level hardware.
The Intel X99 based board offers the new LGA2011-v3 CPU socket, this new socket is not backward attuned with the “Ivy Bridge-E” and the “Sandy Bridge-E” CPUs. Presently the highest end processor supported by it is the 8-core Intel Core i7-5960X processor which has the base clock speed of 3.0 GHz and a turbo boost clock of 3.50 GHz. Intel X99 is also the first consumer desktop platform which supports DDR4 memory modules.

Intel also introduced the three Intel Core i7 “Haswell-E” processors at the launch event of the Intel X99 chipset. This processor is said to feature the new LGA2011-v3 package. Hence as a result of this the new chips are no longer backward compatible with the X79-based boards of the previous generation. Here is a comparison between the newly launches processors with the previous generation ones to give you an overview of the latest CPU news:

• Core i7-5960X Extreme Edition: this processor comes with a clock speed of 3.0GHz and a Max Turbo Frequency of 3.5 GHz. It has Cores/Threads of 8/16 and L3 Cache of 20MB. PCI Express 3.0 Lanes: 40, Max TDP (W): 140 and the Retail Price (in 1k units): US dollar 1,059.
• Core i7-5820K: this processor comes with a clock speed of 3.3GHz and a Max Turbo Frequency of 3.6 GHz. It has Cores/Threads of 6/12 and L3 Cache of 15MB. PCI Express 3.0 Lanes: 28, Max TDP (W): 140 and the Retail Price (in 1k units): US dollar 396.
• Core i7-5930K: this processor comes with a clock speed of 3.5GHz and a Max Turbo Frequency of 3.7 GHz. It has Cores/Threads of 6/12 and L3 Cache of 15MB. PCI Express 3.0 Lanes: 40, Max TDP (W): 140 and the Retail Price (in 1k units): US dollar 594

Among other latest CPU news, AMD has recently released its next generation APU called as Carrizo. It is expected to directly succeed the former launched Kaveri by AMD and also aims at performance mobile computing devices just like its preceding Kaveri. This was introduced at the event Future of Compute by the Corporate VP and Product CTO of the organization Joe Macri which took place here in Singapore. This latest device promises better performance as it includes a more complex DirectX 12 that is capable of GCN graphics core based graphics engine. It will also include the presently popular convertible form factor models as well.
