There was one incident which occurred in my office which I vividly remember. This was supposed to be a premier top ten institution for MBA in India and hence I expected a decent office. But to my utter dismay, I was in for a rude shock. The office was pretty cluttered and untidy. Even the walls were not painted properly and had stains on them. Anyways I settled in and my lofty expectations of a great office were somewhat crushed. I tried to settle in but even the computers were quite outdated and god only knows to which era they belonged.  I had also seen a stream of ants exploring the room as it was their fiefdom. Anyways the job market was very rough and I had made some big mistakes in my professional career and hence I kind of deserved this.  After a week passed, I was just sitting at my desk and working when my boss immediately called me asking me to do some urgent work. I remember I had brought my lunch from home which was basically boiled egg sandwich with tomato sauce and I had just kept in on my work desk. I was completely engrossed in my work for around 1-2 hours and didn’t even realize when lunch time came. When I turned to my lunch box, to my horror all the ants had invaded my box and most of them had even managed to enter the box. I was so bloody disgusted that the food which my mom had made so lovingly had gone to waste and I was so hungry. I really wished at that time that the institution had hired some pest control company and nipped this menace in the bud. You don’t need to look for the best pest control company around, even if you google any normal company, they would have willingly done the same and at least it would have salvaged some reputation of this institute in my mind. But alas that was not to be!!!!

Anyways enough of the negatives as there were some positives as well. The work timings were from 9 am to 5 pm and they were fixed and hence everybody used to leave for home sharp at 5 pm. That was such a welcome relief. After all those longs hours of working incessantly for a corporate job, I really cherished this. There was a fixed lunch time of 1 hou14r from 1 pm to 2 pm and there was no prying boss around who always used to look into my computer as to what am I doing. The nature of the work was definite and specific and to my liking. In my previous office, the nature of my job was very uncertain as it was related to the vagaries of the stock market and since it was uncertain, I kind of hated the job.
