Collecting is not for the faint of heart, and while it is immensely enjoyable, it might be a bit daunting to start.
Taking that into account, we made up this short and sweet guide to take you by the hand down your collecting path.
Settle what you are interested in:
You should start out from the very beginning, and that involves sorting out just what are you interested in. There are a lot of collectibles from the King, ranging from trading cards to action figures and so on.
Therefore, you should start by narrowing your options, so that you know what to get and prevent time and money wasting going after collectibles you don't really care about – remember, collecting is all about passion for something and if you aren't passionate about it, don't do it because you are doomed to fail.
Make a list:
Ok, so you selected a niche and feel ready to start. Go ahead and make a list of the collectibles you'll try to find and order them by their degree of difficulty (to obtain of course, taking money and logistics into account as well.)
By making a list, you'll find it easier to get organized and pursuing objectives will be straightforward.
Find how to get your pieces:
So how are you going to get the pieces you are interested in? Many of the buyers look online, but it may be a hard thing to do since you'll find a lot of forgeries and scam artists on the Internet. Others prefer to tour fairs and garage sales around the world, but that is time and money consuming.
Whatever you do, make sure you get a lot of different streams and you are able to set out a lead system, so that people will know to call you if something amazing pops up!
Find a unique niche or a freshly-green avenue:
A collection's value is directly linked to how unique it is. If you start collecting every single trading card right now, chances are you'll find competition and you will definitely struggle to become THE collection and authority in the niche.
On the other hand, if you start a collection of every piece in which Elvis is wearing purple and focus your collection on Elvis wearing purple, you might have better luck (don't take it literally, we didn't research "Elvis wearing purple" collections).
You should always note that the value of a collection is subjective, and that the only rule you have when collecting is to always be passionate for your items.
