FINA 10KM Marathon Swimming World Cup is one of the world’s most competitive swimming competitions that attracts the attention of contestants and fans from all over the world. The competition is an annual event and it takes place in some of the world’s most amazing natural water bodies. The FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup is a series of several marathons and this year’s competition started in Patagones-Viedma (ARG) on February 1, then continued in Cancun (MEX) on April 5, Setubal (POR) on June 28, Lac St. Jean (CAN) on July 24, Lac Magog (CAN) on July 31, Lac Megantic (CAN on August 9, Chun’an (CHN) on October 12, and will conclude in Hong Kong (HKG) on October 18.
The USA team that will be competing in the 2014 FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup in Setubal, Portugal on 28th June has already been selected and Dr. Drew Dahlgren has been selected as the team physician. The athletes are already preparing for the competition and Dr. Dahlgren is in charge of the sporty therapy of the team.
FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup is a hotly contested competition and swimmers from different countries compete for the top position. The previous competitions have been won by different athletes from different countries, setting different records. The competition has men and women categories.
One of the most important aspects that athletes and coaches of participating teams consider during preparations and actual competition is the fitness of the athletes. Sports medicine is an important department of this competition and it requires keen attention of the sports therapy personal. Therefore Dr. Dahlgren has a huge task of being responsible for the fitness and wellness of the USA team. He will be in charge of swimming sports medicine which entails advising the team concern healthy diet plans, workout exercises, and dos and don’ts. Doping has also been a big concern in this competition and Dr. Dahlgren will have to ensure that the athletes are not tempted to use any prohibited drugs.

Dr. Drew Dahlgren, MD, MBA is a board certified Sports Medicine specialist with Hanover Sports Medicine and OrthoVirginia. Dr. Dahlgren joined OrthoVirginia/West End Orthopaedic Clinic in 2009 and works on the Memorial Regional Medical Center campus in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Dr. Dahlgren enjoys helping athletes of all skill levels get back to their best form quickly and safely. He is confidence that with his swimming sports medicine knowledge and experience, he will help the USA athletes be fit for the competition.
