The Rewards of Kaolin Clay Powder

Kaolin Clay Powder is naturally occurring clays formed from the chemical weathering of rocks in hot and moist temperatures. It occurs with natural white color but can have tints of blue, red or brown resulting from the impurities. It is used in several industrial applications ranging from paper manufacturing, ceramics, food, toothpastes, adhesives, light bulbs, cosmetics, etc. Now, let us look at the uses of the Kaolin Clay Powder in detail below:

Uses of Kaolin Clay Powder:

.    Cardboard And Chalk Manufacturing- Kaolin is used as a filler and coating for manufacturing the cardboard products and inks. The use of kaolin provides smoothness and gloss to the surface.  The surface porosity can be reduced by filling it in the holes of the surface. Further, it prevents bleeding of the ink and adds brightness, opacity and whiteness to them. It is also used in the blackboard chalks as filler. It offers them bright white color and smoothness. Due to it, they can be quickly pressed or extruded into cylinders;

.    Latex wall paints- It is primarily used as filler in the wall paint improving the surface durability. The platy structure of the kaolin links the film together and thickens the liquid. The thickening reduces the running as well as the amount of pigment needed. Using the kaolin in place of the Titanium Dioxide is very economical in the manufacturing of the latex wall paints;

.    Cement and concrete- It improves the durability of the construction materials enhancing the adhesion between cement, sand and gravel particles. Moreover, it removes the chemically active calcium hydroxide and reduces the porosity of the construction chemicals;

.    Paper and magazines- It is used as coating in the paper and the magazine industry. The kaolin is used to provide gloss and smoothness to the surface of the paper.  It prevents the bleeding of the ink by reducing the porosity. It improves the whiteness, brightness and opacity of the paper. It is used to fill the holes and in the inks to improve their smoothness.

.    Electrical insulation ceramics- The kaolin provides excellent thermal and electrical resistance to the electrical insulators.  It can be used with other clay minerals as it blends perfectly with any of it. It is a pure and white substance that increases the durability and hardness of the product;

Besides the uses mentioned above, it is also used as a base for the makeup. It provides a white, odorless and opaque surface for the face powders. It completely adheres to the skin absorbing the moisture and providing a smooth texture. As inexpensive filler, it is used in the manufacturing of automobile tubes and tires. It blends completely with the rubber providing durability and strength to the products. Further, it is used in making porcelain dishes, rubber sink mat, pharmaceutical tablets, electrical wires, etc.
