There are several monuments across the globe which are of International importance. Such monuments are great tourist attractions as tourists from different parts of the world visit these monuments. Statue Of liberty in New York is a monument which millions of visitors visit every year. America is planning yet another statue known as the Statue of responsibility. The monument is proposed to be built on the West coast of the United States. The monument was the vision of Viktor Frankl, the author of bestseller “Man’s search for meaning”. The novel is considered as one of the 10 top most influential bestsellers across the world.
The Monument of responsibility is a 21st century symbol of liberty, freedom and responsibility. It is not just a statue, but has become a movement named as the Statue of responsibility movement. It is going to be a $300 million movement and is managed by a foundation. The members of the foundation span 61 members from 15 States and 3 countries.
The statue of responsibility was Viktor Frankl‘s dream. He was a holocaust survivor and he had written about his experiences in his book.
"Freedom, however, is not the last word. Freedom is only part of the story and half of the truth. Freedom is but the negative aspect of the whole phenomenon whose positive aspect is responsibleness. In fact, freedom is in danger of degenerating into mere arbitrariness unless it is lived in terms of responsibleness. That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast."
In the 1990s, Dr. Viktor Frankl and a small group of his friends met together to discuss about making the dream into reality. The group had famous people like Dr. Stephen Convey, Kevin Hall and Dr. James Newman. But Dr Frankl did not live to fulfill his dream.
In the year 1997, Gary Lee Price, the famous sculptor was commissioned to design the statue. Gary started his work of creating the Statue of responsibility. He created a prototype which shows two hands with each gripping the arm of the other.
The 300 foot stainless steel sculpture is going to be a bookend to its counterpart, the Statue of Liberty. The statue, which is going to be built in Utah will convey the message “Liberty needs to be lived in terms of responsibility”.
The statue of responsibility is going to be a merger of liberty and responsibility .when both these ideologies link together, it creates freedom for the present and future generations.
