Bhimtal, a picturesque town located in Nainital district of the North Indian state, Uttarakhand, has some of the most relatively unexplored attractions in store for its visitors. It is believed that Bhimtal was named after Bhima. The temple, now known as Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple, was built in its present form by Baz Bahadur, a king belonging to the Chand dynasty who ruled this region in the seventeenth century. Near this temple is Gola Nadi, which is one of the tributaries of Gargi River. Nal Damyanti Tal is a natural lake located at a distance of about 2 kilometres from Bhimtal. The palace of a famous king known as 'Nala' had drowned in this lake, according to the local legends. Located close to this lake is a group of lakes called 'Sat Tal', which would be a great place for nature lovers. They would be delighted to savour the sights of clear waters and sweet voices of birds coming from the thick woods nearby. Also located close to this lake is a hill called Hidimba Parvat, which has been named after Hidimba, a demon character from the tales of Mahabharata. The Nag temple on the hill of Karkotaka is also an interesting place to visit. It is dedicated to Nag Karkotaka Maharaj and gets plenty of visitors during the festive occasion, Rishi Panchami.
